Strict for economic damages, proof for the rest

Oregon law establishes a dog owner's strict liability for economic damages from any injury caused by a dog under ORS 31.360. For full compensation, including pain and suffering, the victim has to prove negligence, violation of an animal control law, or that the dog was known to be vicious toward humans.

Sources note the strict liability statute does not apply when the victim was unlawfully on the property, and the deadline is two years under ORS 12.110.
