A formula cap with a catastrophic injury exception

Under R.C. 2315.18, noneconomic damages are limited to the greater of three times economic loss or $250,000, with three times economic loss not to exceed $350,000 per plaintiff or $500,000 per occurrence. The catastrophic injury exception removes the cap, and wrongful death claims are exempt.

Medical claims follow R.C. 2323.43, which raises the ceiling to $500,000 per plaintiff for severe injuries instead of removing it. Fault follows R.C. 2315.33 and 2307.22.
