Nebraska Minor's Settlement Calculator

In Nebraska, a person with legal custody can settle a child's claim without a judge if the claim, not counting medical reimbursement, liens, attorney fees and costs, is $40,000 or less, with an affidavit and a transfers account or annuity. Above that, the county court handles it. Enter the settlement, fee and bills to see which route applies.

Nebraska lets a custodial parent settle a child's claim without a judge up to $40,000, counted after medical bills, liens, fees and costs

Nebraska's no-court procedure is in the Statutory Thresholds for Settlements Involving Minors Act, Neb. Rev. Stat. 25-3110 and 25-3108. Otherwise the county court can protect a child's money under 30-2630 and 30-2638. A minor is defined in 43-2101 and the deadline is tolled under 25-213.

See why and when a court approves a child's settlement, how transfers accounts and annuities work, and what we found about attorney fees in a child's case.
