Minnesota requires a judge to approve every child's settlement and caps the lawyer's fee at one-third

Minnesota requires court approval under Minn. Stat. 540.08 and General Rule of Practice 145, which also sets the petition, the hearing, the one-third fee cap and how the money is held. A minor is defined in 645.451, and the deadline is suspended under 541.15.

See why a court approves a child's settlement, how blocked accounts and structured settlements work, and how the one-third fee cap works.
