Illinois requires leave of court, with $10,000 as a payer safe harbor
Illinois lets a guardian compromise a minor's claim only with leave of court under 755 ILCS 5/19-8, and lets a payer pay a parent up to $10,000 on affidavit under 25-2. The age of majority is in 11-1, and the tolling rule in 735 ILCS 5/13-211.
