Hawaii's $10,000 line is a payer safe harbor, not an approval rule

Hawaii handles money for a minor under HRS 560:5-104, which lets a payer transfer up to $10,000 a year to a parent, guardian, custodian or insured account, and 560:5-412, which lets a court authorize a settlement and protective arrangements in the child's best interest. In a pending case the court appoints a guardian ad litem under Rule 17(c) of the Hawaii Rules of Civil Procedure.

See why and when a court gets involved, how insured accounts, custodians, annuities and trusts compare, and what we found about attorney fees in a child's case.
