An unusually long list of accepted survivorship phrases
Under 33 M.R.S. § 159, Maine specifically enumerates a wide range of phrases that all count as sufficient to create a joint tenancy: "as joint tenants," "in joint tenancy," "as joint tenants with rights of survivorship," "with rights of survivorship," "to them and to the survivor of them," "to them and their assigns and to the survivor and the heirs and assigns of the survivor forever," or "as tenants by the entirety." See our full breakdown of Maine joint tenancy rules.

Bank accounts follow the standard multi-party framework
Maine's bank account statute follows the Uniform Probate Code's multi-party account structure, effective September 1, 2019. See our guide to Maine beneficiary and P.O.D. accounts.
Where this feeds into other Maine calculators
The probate-estate total from this tool is the starting point for Maine's probate cost and executor fee calculators, and for checking Maine's small estate procedures. Maine has a state estate tax on larger estates — see our Maine Estate Tax Calculator for that separate calculation.
